Wastewater monitoring and pandemic preparedness

Ongoing multicampus UC-Lab Fees Research Program. The Pandemic Readiness and Equity through Virus Epidemiology of Wastewater (PREViEW) project combines modeling, methods benchmarking, high-throughput sequencing, and studies on the fate and characteristics of viruses in wastewater. It is led by myself and Professor Kara Nelson with co-investigators at UCSF, UC Davis, and Lawrence Livermore National Lab.

Advanced treated water in distribution

Previous NSF-CBET focused on understanding potential impacts of highly treated water on the microbial communities in drinking water distribution systems.

Microbiomes of advanced treatment trains for potable reuse

Analysis of microbiomes from pilot advanced treatment trains using metagenomics and 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. The first publication from this work appears here. Partially funded as part of the ReNUWIt NSF-ERC.
